Professional Organizations

American Herbalist Guild is a non-profit, education organization representing professional herbalists who specilize in the medicinal use of plants.  This is the only organization in the United States that provides a peer-review membership process to recognize professional herbalists.

Healing Tao USA is an organization that offers many resources, including training, books, and DVDs about the practice of qi gong and internal alchemy, which is a form of nei gong.

United Plant Savers An organization devoted the protection of medicinal plants and their native habitat.

North Carolina Herb Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the production, marketing, and the use of herbs and herb related products through education and research. This organization links a wide range of people throughout the state of North Carolina that are interested in the use of herbs, such as growers, clinicians, wildcrafters, researchers.

Schools of Herbal Medicine

The Academy of Integrated Medicines is a new school (as of 2012) located at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill, NC that is providing professional level trainings in integrative medicines, beginning with an integrated herbal studies program that will teach Chinese medicine integrated with western and Ayurvedic herbal systems.     

Michael and Leslie Tierra's website with information and their school, the East West School of Herbology, that offers a course of study for becoming a professional herbalists that integrates Chinese, Ayurvedic, and western healing systems  as the basis for the medicinal use of herbs (referred to as planetary herbalism).

Andres Vergara, M.Ac., L.Ac., is a licensed acupuncuturist, Chinese herbalist, Zero Balancer, and Qi Gong/Tai Chi/Meditation instructor who practices out of both the Naturopathic Health Clinic and Awaken Wellness Clinic. He practices both five element and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture.

Garren Brannon, RD, LDN, is a Registered & Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist and Chef in private practice in Winston-Salem, NC.
